Day 1 :  Arrival and Entebbe

You will be met at the airport by your driver/guide and transferred the short distance to your guesthouse

Situated on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, the former seat of Uganda’s government, Entebbe is just a short drive from the current capital and offers plenty to keep visitors amused. This charming town features tree-lined streets and serves as an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. Tourists can look forward to spending days on beautiful beaches along the banks of Lake Victoria, stroll through the fields and forests of the magnificent Botanical Gardens, or pay a visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a haven for country’s orphaned chimps

DAY 2: Depart Entebbe for Kibale National Park

An early start from Entebbe as we head west to the Kibale area.  We’ll stop for lunch en route and reach your lodge in the afternoon.  In the evening you’ll go on a short hike to explore the surrounding crater lakes and enjoy the scenery.

Day 3: Kibale Forest Chimp Tracking

An early start for your chimpanzee tracking at Kibale forest.  You’ll return to your lodge for lunch and have the afternoon to relax or take a walk in the surrounding countryside.

Kibale Forest National Park, situated in Western Uganda, is famous for its high density of primates, breathtaking crater lakes, and thick, beautiful jungle. Thirteen primate species inhabit the beautiful tropical forest, including red-tailed monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, red colobus, and black and white colobus monkeys. Visitors may spot some of the 300 bird species and 250 butterfly species, and buffalo, forest elephants, leopards, bushbucks, and sitatungas also live in the park but are generally shy. The area is decorated by around 50 enthralling crater lakes and numerous pristine hiking trails. Several cultural tours are on offer which delve into the rich traditions of the Batoro people, giving travelers a chance to see Batoro dancing, singing and traditional healing up close.

Day 4: Bigodi Wetland and Drive to Queen Elizabeth N.P

A very early start to catch the best of the primates and birdlife of the Bigodi Wetland and its adjacent forest gallery.  Early lunch at your lodge before we head down to the plains and lakes of Queen Elizabeth NP. In the afternoon you’ll go on the Kazinga Channel boat trip and in the evening, a short game drive on your way to your lodge for the night.

Surrounded by other wonderful parks in the western region of Uganda, the Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its rich biodiversity, wildlife and history. In the southern part of the park, the remote Ishaha sector is home to tree-climbing lions who spend long lazy days dozing in the pretty fig trees. The Uganda Kob, a type of antelope, are watched carefully by the tree lions while grazing the plains Around Lake Edward, enjoy fishing and more game watching – make sure to look out for chimpanzees, elephants, crocodiles, and perennial and migratory bird species.

Day 5: Kasenyi Savannah Game drive and drive to Ishasha

A morning game drive on the Kasenyi Savannah then lunch at your lodge with its commanding views of the park.  They’ll be time for a dip in the swimming pool before we head through the conservation area to your new lodge for dinner.

Day 6:  Ishasha Game Drives

A full day of game drives exploring the Ishasha sector of the park, The Ishasha Sector lies near the southwestern edge of Queen Elizabeth Park and is known primarily for its incredible and unusual tree-climbing lions. Watching these massive beasts claw their way up to sunny spots, often with prey in tow (such as Buffalo, Topi, and Uganda Kobs) is a spectacle of note. It is said they do this in order to get better viewpoints, and for protection from the winds. However, the sector provides plenty more to do and see. This untouched area of savannah and rivers, decorated with fig, acacia, and cactus trees, is a wonderful place to enjoy game drives, guided nature walks, and traditional community tours. Ishasha is one of the best bird-watching destinations in the country and is also home to elephants, hippos, and zebras.

Day 7: Lake Mutanda

A relaxed breakfast and leisurely start to the day before we take the winding forest road through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Lake Mutanda.

We’ll take a packed lunch en-route and expect to arrive at your lodge with its spectacular lake and mountain views in the afternoon. Situated in Uganda, Lake Mutanda is a small freshwater lake sandwiched between the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the Virunga Mountains. Set against a misty mountain backdrop, the picturesque lake is dotted with islands, and the surrounding landscape is scattered with wetland ecosystems and lakeside forests stretching up the mountain slopes which provide a safe habitat for the endangered mountain gorilla. Visitors can look forward to gorilla tracking, bird watching, lake lounging, volcano hiking, and paddling in a traditional dugout canoe.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today’s the day!  It’s an hour’s drive to the start point and after a briefing from your ranger you head on foot to find your gorilla group. The walk can be anything from 30 minutes to 6 hours, but is usually in the 2-3 hour range.  The going can be tough, the terrain steep, vegetation lush and the weather wet but when you finally come across the magnificent beasts it will all be worthwhile!  You will spend one hour with them, observing their day to day activities at close quarters, following them through the forest.  The time will fly but the memories will stay with you forever.

EXPERT TIPS

If you are sick you will not be able to visit. Gorillas are so closely related to us that they can catch all of our diseases but may not be so well equipped in recovering from them. Their safety is paramount.

A reasonable level of fitness is required for this trek.

Good walking shoes, waterproof jacket and long trousers are essential.

Day 9: Depart Bwindi for L. Mburo National Park

The opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Lake Mutanda with a gentle walk and canoe trip.

We’ll depart after an early lunch and arrive at your lodge at Lake Mburo in the evening. Situated in the southwestern region of Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is an easily accessible, compact little gem. Renowned for its impressive biodiversity, Lake Mburo National Park shelters almost seventy mammal species and over 300 avian species in its forests, swamps and grasslands. This spectacular landscape features open plains of savanna interrupted by rocky ridges, forested gorges and lush dense woodland. Crocodiles, hippos and a myriad of water birds are found in and around the five lakes, of which Lake Mburo is the largest. Other commonly spotted wildlife include in L. Mburo: impala, oribi, eland, zebra, buffalo, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hyena, hippo and reedbuck.

Day 10: Night Game Drive, Nature Walk and Hiking

After breakfast you’ll go on a guided walk in Lake Mburo NP, the perfect place to see the smaller things we often miss from the car.

Lunch back at the lodge and the chance to enjoy the spectacular views from the lodge’s pool before we head out in the evening for a night game drive.

Day 11: Depart L. Mburo for Jinja

After breakfast we’ll begin our journey East to the Adventure Capital of East Africa. Arriving at your lodge on the Nile in the afternoon. Situated on the northern shores of Africa’s largest lake, in southern Uganda, Jinja is the second largest city in Uganda and is famous for being located at the source of the Nile. The rapids on the Nile make Jinja the white water rafting capital of East Africa. Also known as the adventure capital of Uganda. While the main attraction is undoubtedly rafting down the Nile, there are also a variety of other adrenaline filled activities such as: quad biking, bungee jumping, kayaking, mountain biking and horse riding. Other popular activities include: browsing the colorful Jinja market, viewing the faded grandeur of the crumbling colonial architecture lining the streets and joining a bicycle tour to soak up the spectacularly scenic surrounds.

Day 12: Nile White Water Rafting

After breakfast you’ll head onto the mighty White Nile for your rafting.  Lunch  taken on the river and you’ll back at your lodge in the mid- afternoon to enjoy the calmer waters of the infinity pool before dinner.

Day 13: Depart Jinja For Entebbe International Airport Dropoff
