The 12-day running adventure in Kapchorwa and Safari is designed for runners of all abilities who want to explore running holidays or training camps while exploring some of Uganda’s Wilderness adventure. The tour will provide you with an excellent understanding of Ugandan culture while also taking you to places of outstanding beauty and excellent training conditions. You will follow in the footsteps of numerous long-distance world champions and Olympic champions.

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe Airport and transfer to the hotel

Upon arrival, you will be met by Njia African Adventure driver at Entebbe International Airport and transferred to Via Via Guest House located a few minutes from the airport. Depending on your arrival time, we can start with some light running training today to help you acclimate.

Day 2: Transfer from Entebbe to Athletes Village Kapchorwa

After breakfast, depart Via Via at 8 a.m. for an exciting 8-hour road trip to Kapchorwa. We will then make stops along the way in Jinja and Mbale to stretch and refresh. The landscape will change as we begin to ascend towards Sipifalls Kapchorwa. We will then have a final stopover at the Sipifalls viewpoint before check-in at the Athletes Village and Dinner.

Further in the evening, we will have a Campfire sharing and get-to-know our local team with your guides for the week

Day 3: Training at Champions loop and Kapchorwa Town / Market Tour

In the morning, we will have our first training session at the Champions Loop. He will introduce you to running in Kapchorwa, along with an experienced coach, by sharing his extensive experience in running and coaching.

Return to the lodge to relax before departing for a 3-hour Kapchorwa town tour in the afternoon. The town is primarily populated by Kalenjin, Pokot, and Sabin people, and it has beautiful scenery and natural charming landscapes. On the tour, you will visit a local African market and look for homes and local businesses owned by some of Uganda’s champions as a sign of the impact of running in the home of Champions Kapchorwa.

Get back to the Athletes Village for relaxation and Dinner

Day 4: Discovering the origins of Uganda’s running champions Kwen

We will drive to Kwen, which is about 40 meters from Kapchorwa. David is in charge of the sprint runs and training. As you run through the vast area of green rolling hills and fertile fields, you will be greeted with warm smiles from the local Mosopisiek tribe. Unlike the western side of the mountain, this region is truly off the beaten track. Following the training runs, we will take a lunch break at the home of Joshua Cheptegei. Only a few adventurous tourists visit Kween each year, making it a unique and good running environment to explore.

After lunch, there will be relaxation sessions to reflect on the day and the week ahead before returning to the Athletes Village.

Day 5: Explore Sipi Falls/Caves Adventure

After breakfast, you set off for the highlight of the Sipi Falls Hike experiencing the three Sipi Falls. All of the waterfalls are located in different areas of Mt. Elgon; they cannot be seen all at once, but they will be seen in one day. The paths to these falls are approximately 7km to 8km as you walk. Hiking the Falls on the Trail Running and Safari in Uganda will take approximately 3 hrs depending on individual fitness and pace. Before you begin, you will be given Njia African Adventure walking sticks to help you navigate some steep sections and in case it rains, as the paths become slippery and muddy.

We will take a break to have lunch or relax as you continue to the last waterfall. At their own expense, runners can participate in optional activities such as abseiling or a coffee tour. Hiking the Sipi falls with local guides who are knowledgeable about the area’s history and geography is an unforgettable experience.

Day 6: Better your Miles and Pay a Visit to the Cheptegai Foundation

6:30am Morning Sipi Trail Runs Run for 1 hr. of those opting to go on Marram or dirt road end with drills and speed runs back to camp for breakfast

In the afternoon proceed to visit the Cheptegei Foundation and women’s groups to get a sense of what it is like to be a runner in Uganda. The Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation was established with the goal of transforming communities into strong, united, and influential development partners. Gender-based violence, early marriages, teenage pregnancies, poverty, high rates of school dropout, female genital mutilation, HIV/AIDS, and now the effects of Corona Virus (COVID19) continue to plague the community. As a result, your visit will be critical in giving Joshua’s initiative a voice.

Day 7:  Mosopisiek 2700m trail Adventures in running and walking

After an early morning breakfast, check out of Friends’ House. Today’s adventure will take us off the beaten path of the Mosopisiek trail, far from the modern world. Immerse yourself in the indigenous lifestyle of the Mosopisiek in the Kween District. Experience the real Africa while running with your running guide.

Our ultimate destination will be Coach David’s house. A native and passionate ambassador of the Mosopisiek culture. Until the 1990s, the Mosopisiek were hunter-gatherers in Mount Elgon’s rainforest.

Enjoy a wide range of activities along the trail and, after your run, relax with a delicious local meal. You can spend the afternoon walking in this unspoiled and green environment or visit the Mosopisiek women who make handcrafts from the Elgon Bamboo

Later in the evening, listen to elderly people tell stories around the Campfire.

Day 8: Mukuuso cave and Mengia waterfall Running/walking adventure

Breakfast will be served before continuing on your amazing off-the-beaten-path adventure alongside local farms. Continue the adventure with an ancient Mukuuso cave and its history attached surrounding Mukuuso water falls is a wanderlust experience.

The trip culminates with the most breathtaking views at Benet Waterfalls. Sour milk and drinking raw milk with bowels are both unique experiences too

Head back to Home of overnight and Dinner.

Day 9: Depart Kapchorwa for Jinja.

As your Trail Running adventure ends, it is time to drive back with a stopover in Jinja where you will spend the night ahead of your Safari Visit to Murchison Falls National Park. The scenic drive will allow you to Reveiw on the incredible exploration encounters and unforgettable running experience you have had during your time in Uganda.

Day 10: Hotel Pickup and transfer to Murchison Falls N.P

After breakfast, depart Jinja  for Murchison falls arriving Afternoon time. Before check-in in at your Hotel/Lodge, the driver will lead you to the Thunderous Falls as a welcome into Uganda a unique Marvel. The Lodge is within the park boundaries so expect to see some elephants crossing as we arrive at the Lodge, Baboons and many bird species.

Continue viewing the park and the falls at a panoramic and breathe taking views across the extent of the park all the way to Lake Albert. Head to the thunderous water falls penetrating through a narrow gorge. Besides the beautiful view of water falls, you will take the best of photos as a group and as an individual while enjoying the sounds from the falls

Day 11: Murchison Falls Park

This is our big day in the wilderness. After an early morning breakfast, our driver/guide will have a briefing with the group and thereafter take the group for a 2-3 hours game drive. Numerous giraffes, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, zebras, jackals, and antelopes will be visible. As the drive continues, the range guide will lead us in the direction of the lion’s den.

The game drive to Victoria Nile, which is located in the southern portion of Murchison Falls National Park, will take up to three hours at most. To get there, use the recently constructed bridge.

Lunch and relaxation at Red chili.

Take a two-hour boat trip down the Victoria Nile after lunch. More waterside animals, including crocodiles, buffalo, numerous hippos, up-close views of elephants, and an abundance of birds at the base of the falls, can be seen during the boat ride.

Following the boat ride, the driver will take you through Budongo Forest and out of the park, arriving in the early evening. In Masindi Town for relaxation or take a Walk around Masindi town before a healthy dinner

Day 12:  Ziwa Rhino Tracking   and Transfer to Entebbe

You will go to your preferred rhino tracking location after breakfast. After Tracking, you will checkout of the lodge.

Lunch Stopover traveling to Kampala or Entebbe Early evening to catch your onward flight
